Piriapolis
Boatyards
Piriapolis is reported to be a great place to get work done on your boat. There are rules concerning insurance and doing own work on your boat (see below), however prices are consistent and you basically get what you pay for.

The port has an excellent 100 ton travel-lift and provides short and long term storage. Most work is permitted however welding requires a hot-work permit and this has to be approved in advance by a coastguard inspector from Montevideo and there is a fee for this.

The yard does not carry insurance and it is a requirement that the yacht have suitable coverage for the haul out and the storage - the equivalent of the liability a yard would normally carry. This can be arranged at the Banco Seguros de los Estado in central Piriapolis.

Marina personnel are not permitted to assist with mooring. Water & electricity on the dock. 100 ton travel lift. Good place to get work done.

Punta del Este
Docking
The only place to stay in a marina in Punta Del Este is at the Municipal Marina. There are two yacht clubs also, however these are for members only. The Yacht Club Punta Del Este is located on the same grounds as the marina complex, which also has all the Uruguayan Authorities offices (see the Customs and Coast Guard building on the right of the picture with the Punta del Este lighthouse on the left).

There are plenty of moorings, some are free and others can be hired for a daily fee which includes a launch service; however, you may well be required to take and pay for a berth in the marina. Note that you must show that you have paid the marina before you can be cleared by the Prefectura (Uruguay Coast Guard).

Municipal Marina
Secure to a mooring buoy and to the concrete docks. Facilities here are reported to be excellent, with drinking water and electricity available at each slip. Lifting facilities up to 8 tons. Repairs can be arranged. Gas cylinders can be refilled. Showers and toilets.

MONTEVIDEO
Docking
There are no yachting facilities in the commercial harbour, but both marina berths and other moorings are available at Puerto del Buceo harbour, approximately 9nm to the East (see photo left).

Local rules are that you must notify the authorities half an hour before your arrival at Puerto del Buceo on VHF Ch. 16 (Puerto Buceo Control - coastguard station).

Santa Lucia: Santiago Vazquez
Another option is at Santiago Vazquez on the Santa Lucía river, about 20nm to the west. Here there is a marina and a yacht club, however since the construction of a new bridge with high voltage power lines it is only recommended for small cruising boats (see photo right).

In the middle of the river the wires are recorded as being at 11 meters, and at the sides 16 meters above mean water level, but take care: with a strong wind from the southeast the river rises up to 2 meters.

Before heading to Santa Lucia it is recomended to call Santiago Vazquez control, the local costguard station. A 32 ft German yacht touched the power lines here in February 2013 and burnt to the waterline within minutes, so care should be taken to contact the authorities before attempting this trip.

 Bonjour,
